Image-Based Lighting Workflows

Image-based lighting (IBL) in virtual production offers a dynamic and efficient way to create high-quality, immersive virtual environments, making it a valuable tool for modern filmmaking and content creation. It allows filmmakers to explore creative possibilities and enhance the realism of their projects while streamlining the production process. From commercial work and music videos to Hollywood blockbusters, a new ecosystem of lighting control is upon us.

With robust data management, VRGB profiles enabling seamless synching with LED walls and a next level color engine, our Rainbow Series in combination with Assimilate Live FX offers a simplified and scalable solution for incorporating IBL into any workflow.

Independent Workflow

Video file is played inside Assimilate Live FX, which is pixel mapping two user defined areas on the image to two Quasar Science arrays using the fixtures’ in-built ethernet connectivity.

Integrated Workflow

Live FX is handling multiple inputs, managing projection mapping for the LED Volume image content, and sampling image data to drive stage lighting via a connected lighting console. Quasar Science arrays receive the data directly via Ethernet, with VRGB/RGBWW profile selected to enable the fixtures to accurately match the colorspace of the playback media and LED wall (eg. Rec709, sRGB, Linear, etc.)  Litepanels Geminis provide extra output for talent lighting.

Integrated Media Server Workflow

Alternative integrated scenario, where Live FX is added to an existing Media Server setup. Live FX is fed an image output from the media server, and drives the stage lighting based on the image content with the optional use of a lighting console. Quasar Science arrays receive the data directly via Ethernet, with VRGB/RGBVW profile selected to enable the fixtures to accurately match the colorspace of the playback media and LED wall (eg. Rec709, sRGB, Linear, etc.). Litepanels Geminis provide extra output for talent lighting.
